As part of the experience, each of the 14 active members in attendance were given a special VIP Maker’s Mark bottle to remember the day. As a bonus, Maker’s Mark provided 6 additional bottles for The Bourbon Mafia to use for charitable collections. All 20 of the bottles were numbered 1 of 20 so everyone can have #1. There’s nothing better than pulling barrel proof bourbon out with a whiskey thief and filling your own glass. On Friday May 9th, Mafia member Dwight Thrailkill had the opportunity to join a group from Louisville for a Knob Creek Experience Barrel Selection at Jim Beam. The group led by Chris Schreck of Schreck Baxter Liquors and Rick Gribbins of Southern Wine & Spirits of Kentucky assembled in the Jim Beam Still House at the Clermont Distillery where they met Craig Weiter, Jim Beam Barrel Selection Manager. Four Roses Barrel Selection
Mafia Brothers Justin Sloan and Dwight Thrailkill were invited to join a Reddit.com Cask Force group to select two barrels at Four Roses. The Cask Force met at the Four Roses bottling location in Cox’s Creek, KY where Master Distiller Jimmy Rutledge led the barrel selection. All ten barrels were tasted at barrel proof. After lunch with Mr. Rutledge we headed off to the Four Roses Distillery in Lawrenceburg, KY where Al Young – Four Roses Brand Ambassador was waiting for us. Evan Williams Experience Visit
A coupe of our members visited the Evan Williams Experience in Louisville and was not disappointed! They really put thought into the new attraction and is a great walk through history of downtown Louisville. Along with great interactive media and artifacts it has its very own Micro Distillery. Buffalo Trace Barrel Selection
Mafia founding fathers Nick Dikeos and Eddie Noel recently had the opportunity to go down to Buffalo Trace to help local Northern Ky store owner Doug Gallenstein of a Liquor City select 10 barrels of bourbon to bottle .. Those choices included Blanton’s, Eagle Rare, Buffalo Trace, Weller and 1792… All these were sampled at barrel proof and then at consumer strength .. Nick and Eddie was even able to retrieve the bourbon straight from the barrel via a bourbon thief. Some 5 hours later and quantities of bourbon consumed the selections were made..
